Well after my other two blog posts on things to do in Singapore have been such a hit. I thought I’d do a third post in the series but this time focused on what to do with kids when you’re visiting Singapore.

I can safely say that after two years living in Singapore we’ve road tested all the options and these are the favourites from my children and also their friends. People often think of Singapore as a built-up city island which isn’t suitable for kids, but so many of these options for kids are outside and in the greenery.

You could easily fill three weeks in Singapore with kids and still not tick everything off your list.

1. Gardens by the Bay
   

   

   

   This place is a show stopper by day and night. The Cloud Dome is fun for kids, with lego sculptures at the very top, a huge waterfall, tree-top walks to run along and most importantly the lack of humidity (it’s a welcome break to cool kids off). Take swimmers along with you as they have an awesome splash park, play area, shaded area and seats for parents to rest. They also have a good cafe next to the splash zone.

2. Jacob Ballas Childen’s Garden
   More suited to younger kids this fun play park is attached to the National Botanical Gardens, it has tree houses, slides and water splash zones. A good spot to visit after a scoot around the Botanical Gardens
3. Universal Studios
   

   

   

   

   

   Most kids love a theme park and Universal Studios in Resorts World on Sentosa will help you fill a whole day in Singapore. Hit the park early for shorter queue times and if you can then I recommend to splurge on fast track queue jumping passes, it can be really hot standing in line in the humidity. The food isn’t great here, it’s mainly fried and fast, if your kids are fussy I recommend a packed lunch. There is a big Fair Price in Vivo City Mall so you can stock up on your way there.

4. Art Science Museum

   

   

   

   We love this little gem at the base of Marina Bay Sands. They change their installations throughout the year, so there is always something new and interesting to check out. We tend to head to the basement and check out the interactive sections down there. If you hang around till dark you can watch the nightly light and water show just outside on the water. They start at 8pm and 9.30pm (On Friday and Saturday nights, there is another show at 11pm).

5. Night Zoo/River Safari/Day Zoo 

   

   Singapore is famous for it’s Zoo, but did you know there are actually three zoos, all next to each other with different animals in each one. You can often get a pass which allows you to do all three or at least two of them over a few day period. If you’re pushed for time I’d opt for the Night Zoo, its incredibly magical and you get so close to the animals. They have nightly shows which some lucky kids can take part in.
   You simply book online in advance and get a time slot. If you pop along early for 6.30pm you’ll get to see a fire eater display as you wait to get inside. Food isn’t great here, especially bad for kids, as most of it is fried (apart from the ice cream) so suggest you eat before you go.
   Tip: Avoid on a Friday evening as the traffic travelling there can be horrendous. Also make sure you’re well covered in bug spray. 

6. Shopping in China Town
   

   

   

   

   

   All kids love to shop for nik naks. And in China town we give the kids $10 pocket money each and let them go wild. We highly encourage refining negotiation skills too. If your kids have stamina I suggest popping into the Buddha Tooth Temple too, especially up to the roof garden to see the giant buddha wheel.

7. The Art Ground in East Coast
   This is a little gem in the East Coast but not far from the centre of town. If you have younger kids it’s a great sensory place to let them run wild and explore. Just check on their website before you go as they do close a few time a year in between each installation.
8. Singapore Wake Park
   

   

   

   It’s no secret this is a favourite of mine, as I join in too. Learning to Wake Board is fun and they have a nice cafe there (which serves alcohol if you wanted to take the edge off your day). The water is always warm here which makes learning fun.

9. East Coast Skate Park
   This is next to the Singapore Wake Park and right on the beach, it’s also conveniently next to a Hawker Centre (outdoor hot food market) which according to my friend Natalie does the best Satay Sticks. We tend to pack an extra bag, where we can, when we travel and pop the kids micro scooters in. So places like this they really enjoy.
10. National Museum and Keppel Centre

    

    

    

    

    

    

    My mum was skeptical that the kids would enjoy a day here, but we tagged onto a guided tour and we all loved hearing more about the exhibitions here. The Keppel Centre within the museum is for kids to immerse themselves in art and get their hands dirty.

11. Coastes
    

    

    Not just for kids this relaxed beach bar means you can get food and hang on the beach siping on fresh coconuts all day long whilst the kids build sand castles and swim in the sea.

12. Bounce/Amped
    These are both great places for when kids need to let off a little steam. Bounce is a little more commercial and has a Ninja Warrier Course. But I tend to prefer Amped as there is free wifi for parents and the noise levels are a little less intense.
13. Super Park
    This is great for rainy days, a huge indoor play area with every activity you can imagine to get the kids moving.
14. Kidzania
    It’s so much cheaper than the UK to visit this on Sentosa island. A place to spend a whole day, my daughter even slept here on a school excursions. My Dad informs me there are plenty of places to sit whilst the kids play and bonus it’s all in the aircon. I’ve thus managed to avoid going myself.
15. Cycle along East Coast Park
    The East Coast Park goes all the way along the water front from the CBD to Changi Airport. There are lots of companies who’ll hire you bikes and even roller blades so you can take in the sea views.
16. Bollywood Veggies

    

    

    

    

    

    

    Singapore kids are so clean and rarely get to play in the dirt. So Bollywood veggies is a great place to show them where food is grown and to explore the countryside. They do a mean curry here and also more western kid friendly meals like fish and chips.

17. Bum Boat Ride

    

    

    

    

    For days when it’s too hot to walk around town, sitting on a bum boat and going to visit the Merlion is a great option.

18. Dempsey Tiong Bahru Bakery, Safari Edition
    You can’t go wrong with any of their locations but I think the Demsey Hill is the most fun for kids, you get to sit in a giant safari tent in the jungle and eat cake.
19. Plain Vanilla Tiong Bahru and Woods in the Books

    

    

    

    On the theme of eating cake, we also like to visit Plain Vanilla, especially their Tiong Bahru location, it has a relaxed vibe, is kid friendly and my favourite kids book shop happens to only be a few doors away.
