Travel // My Wanderlust Travel Bucket List – 2025 Edition

I can’t believe I skipped a whole year of writing this list, but honestly, last year I just wasn’t feeling inspired to travel. After our repatriation, I was completely drained. Fast forward to now and I’m back with gusto. This year we’ve ticked off some incredible bucket list destinations, and I’ve found myself brimming with fresh ideas for where to go next.

Originally, I thought I’d publish this in January as a kind of travel goals post, but I’ve realised the last quarter of the year is actually the perfect moment to pause, reflect on the adventures we’ve had so far, and start dreaming up next year’s trips. Funny enough, being back in Europe has completely shifted our bucket list, some old favourites are still hanging on, but new destinations have quickly taken their spots.

Where’s on your travel wishlist for this year (or next)? I’d love to hear what dream trips you’re planning in the comments below.

Northern Lights

Northern Lights

I’ve been reading that 2025 is shaping up to be one of the best years in a long time to experience the Northern Lights, and I’m manifesting it hard. Picture this: sleeping in a glass igloo or pod, gazing up at the dancing aurora borealis, snow blanketing the ground outside, and that delicious kind of tiredness that comes after a day filled with adventures and hearty, nourishing meals. I haven’t nailed down which country to chase the aurora in just yet; Finland, Norway, Iceland, maybe even Sweden, but stay tuned.

Mallorca

Mallorca

Everyone seems to be raving about Mallorca right now, and with so many friends telling me how much they loved it, I think it’s finally time to add this Balearic island to our list. Think delicious Mediterranean food, endless sunny days, and crystal-clear turquoise waters that are perfect for swimming or sailing.

I can already picture us lazing on a boat, hopping between hidden coves, or simply sinking into the warm golden sand with nothing on the agenda but relaxation. Beyond the beaches, there’s also the charm of Palma’s historic old town, scenic mountain drives through the Serra de Tramuntana, and plenty of cosy spots for long, lazy dinners. Mallorca feels like the kind of destination that has a little bit of everything, whether you’re after adventure, culture, or just a laid-back island escape.

Cappadocia, Turkey

Hot air balloon ride, Cappadocia

I’m half terrified and half wildly curious about taking a hot air balloon ride, but it’s definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences I’d love to try. Recently I watched a German film set in Turkey, and the breathtaking landscapes completely drew me in.

Those otherworldly rock formations, ancient cave dwellings, and valleys that look like something from another planet, it all feels so dreamy. And of course, Cappadocia is famous for its sunrise hot air balloon rides, where hundreds of colourful balloons float above the fairy chimneys and rolling hills. Even if I have to conquer a bit of fear to do it, Cappadocia has firmly landed on my travel wishlist for the mix of adventure, history, and those unforgettable views.

Walking with Gorillas, Rwanda

Gorilla, Rwanda

I first came across this earlier in the year on the feed of someone I follow on Instagram, and I was instantly hooked. The whole experience looked so special, from staying in a cosy guesthouse surrounded by nature to setting out on foot to walk with gorillas in Rwanda.

It all felt incredibly authentic, raw, and unlike anything I’ve ever seen or done before. There’s something about the idea of trekking through misty forests, catching that first glimpse of a gorilla family in their natural habitat, that feels both humbling and life-changing. It’s not just about the adventure; it’s about being part of something much bigger; supporting conservation, connecting with local communities, and experiencing one of the rarest wildlife encounters on earth.

Riding Holiday, Portugal

Riding holiday, Portugal

We visited Portugal for the first time this summer, and honestly, we fell hard for it. Compared to much of Europe, it felt less polished in the best possible way, more authentic, more down-to-earth, and full of charm.

I recently discovered that just north of Lisbon you can even do a horse-riding holiday that specialises in working equitation (my latest obsession), which has me daydreaming about long rides through the countryside. Add to that the incredible food, freshly caught fish straight from the Atlantic, colourful market vegetables bursting with flavour, and surprisingly good local wines (which I may have enjoyed a little too much!) and it’s no wonder Portugal has firmly earned its place on our travel list.

Byron Bay, Australia

I’m completely obsessed with this seaside town in Australia, it’s no secret. Everything about it just draws me in: the laid-back surf culture, mornings spent chasing waves, long walks up to the lighthouse with those endless ocean views, and lazy afternoons in cool little cafés.

There’s a vibe here that feels effortless, linen clothes, salty hair, and a community of people who seem to truly live in tune with the coast. I can’t shake the feeling that I’m meant to spend some proper time here… I just need to get over my fear of snakes first!

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka

This is a country that really seems to have it all, ocean views, incredible safaris, welcoming people, and seriously good food. I’ve been dreaming about exploring its beaches and foothills for what feels like forever, and the pull only gets stronger each year. To make it even more special, we’re trying to convince some of our friends back in the UK to join us, because this feels like the kind of adventure that’s meant to be shared.

Sumatra, Indonesia

It’s been a long-time dream of mine to see orangutans in the wild. We’ve already had the incredible experience of visiting Borneo, so this time I’d love to make my way to Sumatra. The idea of trekking through dense jungle, catching sight of these gentle, intelligent creatures in their natural habitat, just feels like such a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Sumatra also offers so much more beyond the wildlife, lush landscapes, volcanic scenery, and that raw, untamed feel that makes it different from anywhere else.

Kerala, India

Kerala, India

We got our first real taste of India two years ago when we explored the north, and now the south is calling my name. I can already picture it: houseboats gently drifting along tranquil rivers, endless tea plantations rolling across the hills, and the fragrant, spicy flavours of southern Indian cuisine, need I say more?

What makes it even more enticing is that I have a few work colleagues who live there, and I love hearing their stories and insights about daily life, hidden gems, and local culture. The south feels like a place that’s waiting to be explored slowly, savoured fully, and experienced in all its vibrant, sensory glory.

Misool island, Indonesia

Give me an eco-resort any day, and then add in crystal clear water, and I’m in heaven. That’s exactly the kind of paradise Raja Ampat seems to offer. This remote corner of Indonesia is said to have some of the best diving in the world, with vibrant coral reefs, schools of colourful fish, and stunning waters that seem almost unreal.

Even just imagining waking up surrounded by untouched nature, paddling in turquoise lagoons, or drifting above the underwater wonderland makes it feel like a dream destination I need to experience for myself.

Safari in Africa, Serengeti

Having grown up glued to BBC nature programs, none captured my imagination quite like those set in Africa. I’d love to witness wild giraffes, elephants, rhinos, buffalo… in fact, all the incredible wildlife roaming freely across the savannah.

Beyond the thrill of a classic safari, I also have my heart set on visiting Nairobi to stay at the iconic Giraffe Manor, where you can sip your morning coffee with curious giraffes peeking through the windows. The mix of wild adventure and unique, unforgettable experiences makes Africa feel like the ultimate destination on my travel wishlist.

Chile & Argentina

I know technically this is two countries, but to me, it’s one epic trip. We were actually meant to visit Chile and Argentina for our honeymoon, but ended up choosing Bali, Singapore, and New Zealand instead.

Now, the allure of Patagonia calls, towering glaciers, windswept plains, and the chance to gallop across them on horseback. There’s something about the dramatic landscapes, from the jagged peaks in Chile to the endless pampas in Argentina, that feels completely unforgettable. It’s a trip I’ve been dreaming about for years.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Anyone who even slightly loves animals absolutely needs to visit the Galápagos Islands. The thought of seeing giant tortoises, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, and all kinds of unique wildlife in their natural habitat is just irresistible.

I’ve heard you can do a live-aboard boat tour here, hopping between several of the islands and really immersing yourself in the incredible biodiversity. The idea of waking up to the sound of the ocean, snorkeling with playful sea lions, and exploring untouched landscapes feels like a dream adventure I need to experience firsthand.
